Diabetes Awareness Month Activities
Diabetes is one of the four leading NCDs globally with a high rate of morbidity and mortality.
During the month of November, our team championed series of online campaigns regarding diabetes, a webinar themed “Beating Diabetes; Voices Hope” and alongside, organized some physical events namely;
- Diabetes School Tour (Benin/Lagos)
- Free Diabetes Screening Exercise (Benin)
Diabetes School Tour
This was held from the 16th to 21st of November in Benin and Lagos, and was carried out by CHRONmate team members as well as volunteers from The Retina Initiative in form of a partnership.
The tour featured; informative sessions, quizzes and games, as well as the presentation of a nutrition/diabetes chart to each school visited, with the purpose of sustaining the impact of the project and ensuring children are constantly informed about the right choices of healthy meals.
A total four schools and 237 pupils / students were reached –
• God’s Family Children Home School (Lagos) – 70
• Medias College (Lagos) – 81
• Hebron International School (Benin) – 39
• Champions Academy (Benin) – 47
Free Diabetes Screening Exercise
This project concluded the Diabetes Awareness month and was held in Benin City, Edo state. It was done in partnership with Flowell Pharma Nig Ltd and sponsored by New Heights Pharma and Diabetes and Limb Salvage Foundation (DLSF, Lagos).
It comprised free blood sugar tests, Body Mass Index (BMI) and blood pressure checks. CHRONmate team members and an amazing team of medical professionals (volunteers) embarked on the exercise and over 140 persons were screened.
